The New York Rangers have talent spread across many of the Junior leagues in North America, but the Canadian Hockey League may be where they hold the most stock. Hockey's Future recently reviewed all of the Ranger prospects that call the CHL home...
The Rangers have nine prospects who were members of CHL teams this past season, including six forwards, two defensemen, and one goaltender; five play in the OHL, three in the WHL, and one in the QMJHL. In a break from the past, the Rangers have been signing their CHL prospects significantly ahead of the deadline for doing so. Six CHL players were signed to an entry-level contracts over the last two months, including three (Jason Wilson, Christian Thomas, and Dylan McIlrath) that were drafted in 2010.
Among the future Blueshirts who are members of the CHL are top prospects Christian Thomas, Ryan Bourque, Roman Horak and Dylan McIlrath. The Rangers have a very bright future and a diverse one at that. They are developing their prospects using different sources, eventually preparing them to combine into one large melting pot when they enter the NHL.
A lot of credit has to go to Gordie Clark, who oversees everything that goes on in the Rangers' scouting department. Of course GM Glen Sather should get his fair share of recognition as well, but when it comes to the 'spects, Gordie Clark is the man.
