Glencross Suspended Three Games for Hit on Drury

TSN reports that the National Hockey League has elected to suspend Calgary forward Curtis Glencross for three games as a result of his blind-side hit on Rangers Captain Chris Drury on Saturday. Glencross underwent a disciplinary hearing with the NHL earlier today, in which his head shot that forced Drury to leave the game and left him with a concussion was discussed.

It was clear that Glencross was head-hunting, as the shoulder/elbow area of his upper body seemed to make contact with the lower part of Drury's head, this occuring just nineteen seconds into the game. Let this be a warning to all of the players in this league who think that they will get away with, what has become common lately, hits to the head. Kudos to the NHL for finally taking a stand against a tactic which could very well end the career of a player.

Head coach John Tortorella mentioned earlier in the day that Glencross should have been punished for his actions, and also said that General Manager Glen Sather spoke with the league regarding the hit as well.

If you have yet to see the actual hit, the video is below:

Its quite relieving that Chris Drury doesn’t get any serious shoulder injury or any other injury otherwise there were chances of severe damage in the result of that collision. The ban for three matches certainly teaches the lesson to the players who quite willfully try to end the careers of other players.
