Tortorella Meets with the Media

With some tests being conducted tonight, and training camp actually beginning tomorrow, head coach John Tortorella met with the media today, and covered many topics concerning camp itself, and this year's Ranger team in general. These quotes from Torts courtesy of Steve Zipay at Blue Notes, who was in attendance for the meeting.

------
On training camp: "The front end of this camp will be really laden with a lot of tough conditioning, but slowly as we start getting toward the season we start tapering off. The first two days, they won't touch a puck. Third day we'll have a hour scrimmage." There will be four groups of about 13 players each. "The testing is difficult. I really like the way they rallied here. We've had 25 or 30 guys practicing their tests here (in Westchester)."

On Dubinsky: "I can't speak for Dubi, but for us, this kind of thing happens, I'm not sure where it's gonna go. It's not like we hold grudges....that needs to play out. It will not affect our camp, we're going to go out about our business as a team."

On Gaborik's Injury Situation: "We have to manage that situation," Torts said, indicating that Gaborik would likely be held out of some practices."The games are what's important," he said.

On the final team: "My focus is those last three exhibition games, you're pretty much down to your team. It's hard to teach with big numbers. Those (three) games are spread out and we have a lot of teaching days there. Not just conditioning, but speed."

Also take note that Marian Gaborik will not be taking part in the three mile sprint that will take place later today for precautionary reasons. This move leaves me curious, as it is most likely being done to be extra cautious, but is there still a lingering question among the staff and doctors that an injury can be re-aggravated rather quickly? Something to think about.

Stay tuned, as I will have more up from camp as the news comes in throughout the entire weekend.....
